The State Duma adopted in the first reading a bill providing for the possibility of imposing life sentences for pedophiles, a Rosbalt correspondent reports.
Such punishment will threaten for committing crimes against minors, including those over the age of 14, if the offender has previously been convicted of such an act.
Changes are made to part five of Article 131 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “Rape” and part five of Article 132 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “Violent acts of a sexual nature” and provide for the conditions for bringing to responsibility for acts committed against minors.
Currently, there is an increased responsibility for pedophilia in relation to a minor under the age of 14, if the perpetrator has a special relapse. For this, they are imprisoned for a term of 15 to 20 years or given a life sentence.
It is also proposed to extend the action of these norms to cases when such crimes are committed against two or more minors, as well as if the specified act is associated with the commission of another grave or especially grave crime.
At the same time, the State Duma expressed their readiness to discuss additional measures of “containment” in relation to pedophiles – electronic bracelets and chemical castration. Let us also remind that earlier in “Fair Russia” they came up with a proposal to mitigate the punishment for murderers of pedophiles.
Earlier it was reported that a biology teacher from St. Petersburg, arrested on December 10 this year and accused of pedophilia, got a job, forging a certificate of no criminal record for a similar crime. The teacher, who worked in one of the schools of the Moscow region, is accused of committing lecherous acts against two seventh-grade schoolchildren.
That the accused was involved in a criminal offense for lecherous acts back in 2008 and was sentenced to two years probation.
