The restoration of Ukraine will require almost $500 billion. Calculations were presented by specialists from the World Bank, the UN, the European Commission and the Ukrainian government.
According to the forecast, Kyiv will need $486 billion over ten years, while a year ago the needs were estimated at $411 billion. Thus, clearing rubble in all sectors was estimated at $11 billion, and direct damage from hostilities at $152 billion. Housing and communal services were recognized as the most affected industries , transport, trade, industry, energy and agriculture. The greatest damage occurs in the Kyiv region, Donbass, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions.
It is assumed that of the total amount, 17% should be allocated to housing construction, 15% to transport. Another 14% will go to trade and industry, 12% to agriculture, 10% to energy.
At the same time, in order to solve the priority tasks of reconstruction and restoration in 2024, the Ukrainian authorities will need $15 billion, and only $5.5 billion of this amount is provided by the resources of Kyiv and its international partners.
Kiev believes that the main resource for the restoration of Ukraine “should be the confiscation of Russian assets frozen in the West.”
