Zelensky continues personnel changes in the leadership of the Armed Forces of Ukraine: a replacement has been found for Syrsky

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky replaced the commander of the country’s Ground Forces. He appointed Lieutenant General Alexander Pavlyuk, who served as First Deputy Minister of Defense, to this post, according to the decree published on the website of the head of state.

53-year-old Pavlyuk replaced Colonel General Alexander Syrsky, who headed the Armed Forces of Ukraine on February 8 after the resignation of Valery Zaluzhny. Syrsky’s deputies were Colonel Vadim Sukharevsky, who will oversee unmanned systems and the development of the use of drones, and Colonel Andrey Lebedenko, who will be in charge of innovation.

Zelensky also dismissed Sergei Naev from the post of commander of the joint forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, and Maxim Mirgorodsky from the post of commander of the Air Assault Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The combined forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine will now be commanded by Yuriy Sodol, and the Air Assault Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine will be commanded by Igor Skibyuk. Igor Plakhuta will take over the post of commander of the Territorial Defense Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces – he replaced Anatoly Bargilevich. The latter took the post of Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This position was previously held by Sergei Shaptala, but he was fired by Zelensky’s decree. The deputy chiefs of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine will be General Vladimir Gorbatyuk and Brigadier General Mikhail Drapaty, it follows from the decree.

Zelensky motivated the changes in the Armed Forces of Ukraine “by the stagnation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine at the front and the need to reboot the generals,” RIA Novosti writes.
