Fraudsters on behalf of United Russia stole money from Russians

Hackers on behalf of the United Russia (UR) party stole money from the accounts of Russians by sending them false election forms, RBC reports, citing an investigation by the FACCT company. FACCT experts study cybercrimes on the Internet.

According to experts, victims downloaded an application with a virus through Google Play, filled out a form, and then the user was asked to enter their bank card details to receive a “reward” of 2.5 thousand rubles. The survey was devoted to the Russian presidential elections in March of this year.

In two days – January 29 and 30 – the hackers managed to steal almost 300 thousand rubles, and the largest amount that the scammers managed to get from one person was 76 thousand rubles. FACCT noted that hackers used EP symbols and a fake interface from Google Play to create the effect of truthfulness.

Experts reminded citizens that personal data can only be entered on official platforms or in applications from licensed authors. Otherwise, the user risks sharing confidential information with attackers and getting into trouble.
