A round table dedicated to Science Day was held at the regional election headquarters of presidential candidate Vladimir Putin in St. Petersburg (Krasnogvardeyskaya Square, 3). The heads of several St. Petersburg universities, as well as students and graduate students, among whom were holders of presidential grants in the field of science and technology, addressed the issues of generational continuity in the scientific field.
As the organizers emphasized, in the context of growing economic pressure from Western countries, the role of young scientists who work in the interests of Russian science has seriously increased, and the state is ready to support their promising developments. First of all, this concerns research in the field of creating new models of civil and military equipment, the introduction of artificial intelligence into various areas, as well as machine tool construction.
At the same time, the issue of training qualified engineering personnel is extremely acute in Russia at present. And, as the round table participants noted, the higher school of St. Petersburg today is already solving the problems of creating such a personnel potential in the country.
“The fact that in universities across the country and, in particular, in universities in St. Petersburg, competition for technical specialties is really growing and, in general, there are stars who win engineering Olympiads, this is, of course, an absolute positive. But a future specialist engineer is one way or another a specialist at the intersection of sciences, including the humanities, so when training, we certainly must take this into account,” emphasized Alexey Demidov, co-chairman of the regional election headquarters of Russian presidential candidate Vladimir Putin, answering a question about the growing role of engineering specialties.
Having discussed the main directions of scientific activity in the city on the Neva, the discussion participants expressed the opinion that St. Petersburg has every reason and opportunity to become the locomotive of the country’s movement towards technological sovereignty, and should achieve this grandiose goal.
