It became known what people get better faster from – fat or sugar. Doctors Elena Malysheva and German Gandelman answered this question on the air of the program “Live Healthy!”
Malysheva, for example, refuted the claim that you should remove fat from your diet in order to lose weight and get rid of fat. According to the doctor, it is necessary to understand the physiology of the process.
“How do we store our fat? We eat, carbohydrates are absorbed, insulin is produced, and then what we don’t use goes into fat,” Gandelman explained. He added that if a person eats a cake, the sugar that enters the body first goes to the liver and is stored in the form of glycogen, everything else is processed. But if more sugar is produced, then it will be further stored in fat. At the same time, the mathematics is simple: every gram of sugar in the body becomes two grams of fat, the doctor noted.
He added that sugar can only be consumed during physical activity, since it is only burned by muscles. And low-fat products will not help, since they replace a minimum of fat with sugars.
And if you eat fatty foods, there will be no carbohydrates and, in general, nothing bad will happen to your weight, Malysheva added, explaining that this paradox is determined by the glycemic index of foods – the ability to cause appetite and weight gain. So, in fatty foods the glycemic index is 0, and in carbohydrate foods it reaches 100.
“Glucose is energy, fast energy. If a person has not spent it, the reserves are stored only in the form of fat,” the doctor emphasized.
Gandelman added that if you limit fat for a certain period of time, you can lose 2 kg of weight, and if you limit sugar for the same period of time, you can lose up to 5 kg.
At the same time, carbohydrates do not need to be excluded from the diet, but they should be used in reasonable quantities.
