Von der Leyen announced the integration of the Ukrainian Armed Forces into EU defense programs

The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, announced the integration of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) into the defense complex of the European Union. Von der Leyen’s speech at the European Parliament session dedicated to helping Kyiv was published on the official social networks of the head of the European Commission.

According to Von der Leyen, European military forces must be prepared for rapprochement with Ukrainian ones, and the EU urgently needs to include Ukrainian industry in the pan-European defense complex. The security of the Ukrainian state is inextricably linked with the invulnerability of Europe in the face of the Russian threat, the head of the European Commission is sure. Von der Leyen also confirmed Brussels’ firm intentions to include Ukraine in the European Union in the future.

Let us remind you that the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the global ranking of the Global Firepower (GFP) portal are in 18th place among the most powerful armies in the world. Ukraine is ahead of Germany (19), Spain (20), Poland (21) and Taiwan (24) in the table, but is behind Israel (17) and Egypt (15). Russia takes 2nd place.

Earlier, the Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Valery Zaluzhny, in an article for CNN, called for reforms of the army, including the modernization of combat units in order to bring the Ukrainian military up to the level of NATO troops.
