Gynecologist Malgina: Covid disease during pregnancy is fraught with severe pathologies of the fetal nervous system

In the case when the coronavirus disease occurred in the early stages of pregnancy, there are high risks of having to interrupt gestation due to fetal pathologies. Galina Malgina, an obstetrician-gynecologist, doctor of medical sciences, director of the Ural Research Institute of Maternity and Infancy, spoke about this in an interview with the Network of City Portals.

“Even with us [в Свердловской области] There are examples when a woman underwent covid for a period of 5–6 weeks, and at the first screening a severe pathology of the developing nervous system of the fetus was revealed, and the pregnancy had to end. And these are no longer isolated cases in our region, ”said the specialist.

She stressed that in order to avoid such consequences, preparation for pregnancy must necessarily include a vaccination against coronavirus. Galina Malgina pointed out that huge reviews of the world scientific literature are already ready, which indicate that vaccination does not affect the reproductive function of either woman or man.

Ideally, it is better to vaccinate in advance, but if a woman finds out about pregnancy immediately after vaccination, nothing bad will happen. “If something is damaged in the first 15 days of conception, then there will be no pregnancy, it will be rejected at this early stage and will pass as a slight delay in menstruation,” Galina Malgina emphasized. – If something is damaged, pregnancy simply will not develop. Therefore, if a woman was vaccinated on the eve of conception and the pregnancy continues to develop, then I am absolutely convinced that vaccination will not affect the course in any way. There is an 80% guarantee that the pregnancy will proceed normally. “

At the same time, for your own peace of mind, you should timely register for dispensary and, like all other pregnant women, go to the first and second screenings, which reveal fetal anomalies, as planned.
