There were three crew members on board.

A few hours later, rescuers discovered the site of a helicopter crash in Lake Onega – the wreckage (part of the fuselage and a gully) was found 11 km from the shore at a depth of up to 50 m.

More than 140 specialists are involved in the rescue operation, as well as divers from the Special Risk Rescue Operations Center.

An operational headquarters and a commission to investigate the accident have been created.

As specified, the helicopter brought rescuers from St. Petersburg to the Russian Ice competition. Then he went to refuel in Petrozavodsk, and disappeared along the way. The last time the plane was contacted was 20 kilometers from the village of Derevyannoye. At approximately 20:35 the connection was lost. According to preliminary data, the MI-8’s emergency beacon, which is necessary to search for an aircraft, did not work.

The plane belongs to the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Vologda Region.

The Russian Investigative Committee opened a criminal case under the article “violation of traffic safety rules and operation of air transport.” The fate of the ship’s captain and crew members is unknown. Previously, they died.
