Washington’s assessment of the Russian-Ukrainian situation is stable: they believe that the Kremlin has not yet decided whether to exacerbate the situation. This was stated by Assistant to the President of the United States for National Security Jake Sullivan, RIA Novosti reports.
He noted that, according to the White House, Russian President Vladimir Putin “has not yet made a decision” and since last week “nothing has changed here. Also, Sullivan said, intelligence data suggests that Russia is seriously considering such opportunities. But, Sullivan lamented, “we cannot settle in the head of some world leader” and clarified: there are always restrictions on what Americans know and what they don’t.
We will remind, earlier today, the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmitry Kuleba said that Moscow continues to “aggravate the situation” on the border with Ukraine and that the threat of “Russian invasion” on Ukrainian territory still continues. And he immediately assured that Kiev is in constant contact with its allies to contain Russia. Kuleba pointed out that the draft US budget for 2022 provides for a total amount of assistance to Ukraine at $ 756 million. True, Ukraine wants $ 1 billion in support from the United States.
And the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov said that at this stage Ukraine is completely lost for Russia as a partner and ally. According to him, Kiev’s hostility towards Moscow is obvious, as well as “concrete actions to chop off all the ends” that have at least some relation to Russia. “They are chopped from capillaries to central arteries in our bilateral relations. More precisely … they have already been chopped off, so there is no relationship as such, ”said Peskov. Peskov especially emphasized that the Ukrainian people remain brotherly to the Russian people and this “cannot be lost”, no matter how much the Ukrainian authorities try to “fool” their people and instill “hatred of the Russians”.
