Those who have already had covid have a fivefold higher risk of contracting the omicron strain, according to the study’s authors from Imperial College London. According to them, before the appearance of the omicron, natural immunity in 85% of cases protected those who had recovered from re-infection for six months, and now this figure has dropped to 19%.
At the same time, two doses of the vaccine Pfizer or AstraZeneca protect against omicron only in 20% of cases. Protection increases to 55-80% after booster vaccination.
Recall that the omicron strain was identified at the end of November in South Africa. By now, it has spread in different countries, including Russia. Scientists fear that this strain is much more infectious than all the previous ones, and is able to “bypass” vaccinations and immunity after illness.
At the same time, earlier today, the director of the Gamaleya Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology, Alexander Gintsburg, told how to get full protection from the omicron coronavirus strain. According to him, this can be achieved by inoculation with “Sputnik V” and revaccination with “Sputnik Light” in six months. According to him, this vaccination scheme provides today on the sample that has been analyzed, complete protection against the omicron strain – more than 80%. And 100% of people revaccinated with Sputnik Light developed antibodies against the omicron.
Recently Gunzburg announced the creation of a modification of “Sputnik V” for a new strain of coronavirus “Omicron”. He also called on faster to introduce the system of QR codes indicating coronavirus vaccination at the federal level.
