Indian cardiologist talks about holiday heart syndrome

Cardiologist Tilak Suvarna from the Indian medical complex Asian Heart Institute spoke about the dangerous consequence of New Year’s drinking excesses – the holiday heart syndrome.

During the holiday break, people give themselves indulgences. This poses the risks of serious health problems, especially in people with hypertension, a major risk factor for heart disease and stroke, Dr. Peter reports.

Festive heart syndrome can occur in those who actively celebrate the New Year with alcoholic beverages, especially if toasts go one after another in a row. It is especially risky to drink different types of alcohol in a row.

This can lead to sudden heart palpitations. Moreover, the syndrome can overtake even those who have not had any cardiovascular problems before and the pressure was normal. This condition goes away, but can cause panic in a person who is prone to hypochondria.

Also, people who regularly take drugs to control blood pressure often forget to take them on holidays, says the cardiologist. This can lead to a sharp increase in pressure and even threatens with a hypertensive crisis.
