The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova was outraged by the statement of the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs Josep Borrell about the impossibility of a truce between the Russian Federation and Ukraine. In an interview with Sputnik radio, Zakharova criticized Borrell’s position on the Ukrainian conflict, calling the words of the European diplomat “monstrous.”
According to a representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, the EU countries perceive the head of European diplomacy in exactly the same way as in Moscow. However, Zakharova is sure that in the West it is customary to express their emotions regarding any point of view differently – in fact, “among themselves” Europeans consider Borrell’s statements “crazy.” At the same time, Zakharova accused Western countries of not wanting peaceful and stable coexistence.
Shortly before Zakharova’s speech, Borrell published an article in the magazine L’Obs, in which he rejected proposals for a peace agreement between Moscow and Kiev, so as not to make mistakes in the future. According to Borrell, “a victory for Ukraine will give Europe security guarantees” that were destroyed on February 24, 2022. After showing weakness in the 2010s, Brussels actually missed the emergence of a large-scale conflict on the European continent, which is why the EU cannot consider the situational peace of Russia and Ukraine as a solution to the problem.
Previously, Zakharova said that the West is trying to prevent Russia’s victory. The Russian diplomat did not specify in which the Russian Federation can win, but she focused on irreversible changes in current circumstances on a global scale.
