Endocrinologist Ekaterina Young spoke about the effect of vitamin D deficiency on the human body.
The doctor recalled that it is synthesized on the skin under the influence of direct ultraviolet rays. Many Russians suffer from its deficiency, especially in winter when the sun rarely appears and daylight hours are short.
Young said low vitamin D levels affect people’s well-being. The specialist included frequent colds, sleep disturbances, bad mood, and weight changes as negative consequences of a deficiency of this substance. The endocrinologist noted in her Telegram channel that vitamin D deficiency not only weakens the immune system, disrupts brain function and mental health, but increases the risk of developing cardiovascular diseases and multiple sclerosis and impairs the absorption of calcium and phosphorus for healthy bones and teeth.
To replenish vitamin D deficiency in the body, Young advises including foods such as fish, seafood, eggs, butter and cheeses in your diet. The expert also warned that various diets with complete or partial rejection of fats lead to a lack of vitamin D, since it is formed from cholesterol.
Previously, the doctor named five foods that normalize cholesterol levels.
