Rambler&Co: Russians named housing criteria for a comfortable life

The results of an analytical survey indicate that 48% of Russians express a desire to purchase their own housing, with 22% preferring an apartment in the city center, and 34% believe that its area should be 80-100 square meters.

According to the study, 34% of respondents believe that for a comfortable stay they need an apartment with an area of ​​80 to 100 square meters, while 31% consider an area of ​​50 to 70 square meters sufficient. In addition, 16% of Russians express a desire to own housing with an area of ​​110 to 140 square meters, while 10% dream of an apartment with an area of ​​more than 150 square meters, and 9% are satisfied with housing with an area of ​​40 square meters, writes RT.

Regarding the type of housing, 37% of Russians would prefer low-rise houses (from five to nine floors), 27% are considering living in their own house or a townhouse with a plot. About one in four (24%) chose an apartment building with a height of up to 16 floors. Only 8% consider life in a 30-story building comfortable, and 4% would prefer high-rise buildings.

Regarding social infrastructure, 24% of respondents identified clinics and medical centers as the most important thing when choosing a place to live. Kindergartens and schools are important for 21% and 19%, respectively, shopping centers – for 14%. The presence of shops, cafes and restaurants in the area was estimated at 8%. Only 4% place importance on theatres, museums and galleries, with concert venues and cinemas coming in last at 1%.

Regarding the location of ideal housing, 22% of Russians consider it important that it be located in the city center, 19% – near a park, 16% – in close proximity to a reservoir, 14% – outside the city. Only 13% consider proximity to work important, while 16% have not yet decided on their preferences.

The most important criterion for transport accessibility is the presence of a metro station, noted 38% of respondents. For 18%, urban surface routes are important, and for 16%, an extensive road network is important. 12% allocated parking space, 5% indicated commuter service, and 2% indicated car sharing coverage area. For 9%, transport accessibility is not of great importance.

Russians also emphasized the importance of short travel times from home to work. 36% consider 10-25 minutes optimal, 30% – 25-40 minutes, 18% – less than 10 minutes. Only 12% are willing to spend 40-60 minutes on the road, and only 4% are willing to travel for more than an hour.

The survey was conducted on the resources of the Rambler&Co media holding from January 19 to January 29, 2024, covering 23,367 Internet users.
