Timur Bekmansurov, convicted of shooting at Perm University, is trying to appeal the life sentence imposed by the court. According to Kommersant, he filed a complaint with the Supreme Court.
It is registered in the court file and transferred to the fourth criminal corps for consideration.
Let us remind you that on September 20, 2021, first-year law student Timur Bekmansurov armed himself with a gun and came to the university campus, where he opened fire. He killed six people and injured several dozen more.
Bekmansurov was sentenced to life imprisonment. The court made its decision on December 28, 2022. Bekmansurov was found guilty of murder of six people, attempted murder of two or more people, an attempt on the life of an Interior Ministry employee, and damage to someone else’s property. Bekmansurov fully admitted his guilt.
Bekmansurov’s lawyer Ekaterina Kitayeva asked to commute the sentence, citing the fact that her client allegedly committed a crime in order to commit suicide. Bekmansurov himself insisted on ordering a second psychiatric examination, but the court refused. He also tried to achieve category II disability to mitigate the sentence, but Bekmansurov’s demands were again not satisfied by the court.
