Bloomberg: CIA Russia Analysts Banned from Using Telegram

Analysts of the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) from the department for research of the Russian Federation were prohibited from using Telegram in their work, Bloomberg news agency reports, citing sources. According to the agency’s interlocutors, the CIA is concerned about the growing activity of Russian pro-war bloggers and Telegram channels.

According to Bloomberg, CIA employees are prohibited from using personal gadgets and phones on agency premises. However, for their own purposes, intelligence agents can use Telegram outside their subordinate buildings. At the same time, analysts from the Russian department worked with the messenger in order to track messages about the situation at the front from channels close to the Kremlin, Bloomberg sources say.

Earlier, Telegram founder Pavel Durov stated that 800 million people actively use the messenger every month. According to Durov, about 2.5 million new users come to Telegram every day.

Let us recall that on January 23, Bloomberg reported that the Biden administration was developing a special decree on data related to US national security. The draft document states that foreign states may hunt for such information in order to weaken the position of the United States in the international arena.
