Norwegian Defense Minister Eirik Kristoffersen believes that the Norwegian army must be prepared for war with Russia. Kristoffersen stated this in an interview with the German news agency RND. According to the minister, after the Ukrainian conflict, Moscow may develop a plan to attack Norway.
Kristoffersen believes that the Russian army is now carrying out large-scale modernization and is working on mistakes that were made during the fighting in Ukraine. According to the head of the Norwegian Ministry of Defense, Russian troops are becoming stronger every year. Three years after the completion of the military operation, the Russian Federation will be able to return to building up its military power, Kristoffersen added.
At the same time, the minister emphasized that there is now no direct threat to Norway, so the country can continue to supply weapons to Ukraine. However, according to Kristoffersen, “there is not much time left” before a direct clash with Russia. Separately, the minister highlighted the state of the Air Force and Navy of the Russian Federation. According to Kristoffersen, Moscow has almost no losses in these troops, so Norway should closely monitor the build-up of forces in the Russian army.
Kristoffersen had previously warned about a possible war with Russia. He also called for increased funding for the army amid threats in Europe.
