Beglov: Memories of the siege of Leningrad will remain with us forever

Governor of St. Petersburg Alexander Beglov spoke about the order of Russian President Vladimir Putin, dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the lifting of the siege of Leningrad, to collect and publish materials about the life and exploits of ordinary city residents during the siege years. The press service of Smolny reported this to the RosBalt news agency.

According to Beglov, St. Petersburg carried out work to collect testimonies from “ordinary Leningraders: doctors, teachers, engineers, workers, people in uniform.” Their stories were carefully collected into single sources. Based on the evidence, books, anniversary exhibitions were created, films were made, multiple performances were staged, and theatrical performances were held, the governor said.

The head of St. Petersburg emphasized that the process of forming new works based on the memories of living people forced the authors to become imbued with personal events from history, including through letters. All notes based on evidence became a continuation of the “Siege Book” by the writer Daniil Granin – a documentary chronicle of that era. The governor noted that these memories “will stay with us forever.” He also promised to use this chronicle to educate new generations of St. Petersburg residents.

At the same time, Beglov recalled the origins of President Vladimir Putin and his connection with besieged Leningrad. According to the governor, since Putin was born in Leningrad, he is very sensitive to the importance of this date. The 80th anniversary of the liberation of Leningrad from the complete siege is the main event of the new year, it is “Leningrad Victory Day,” the head of the city emphasized.

Let us remind you that on January 27, commemorative events will take place in St. Petersburg to mark the 80th anniversary of the lifting of the fascist blockade. The arrival of 37 delegations from foreign countries is expected, including China, Armenia, the Republic of Belarus, Turkey, Ecuador, Uruguay and other countries.
