The event was attended by the head of Rosatom Alexey Likhachev, the President and Chairman of the Board of VTB Bank Andrey Kostin, the Speaker of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko and the Governor of St. Petersburg Alexander Beglov.

Project 22220 has been implemented since 2012, within the framework of which three nuclear-powered icebreakers were built – “Arktika”, as well as “Siberia” and “Ural”, which became part of the Russian nuclear icebreaker fleet. The third and fourth serial nuclear icebreakers “Yakutia” and “Chukotka” will be commissioned in 2024 and 2026, respectively.

Earlier it was reported that the authorities of St. Petersburg signed a contract for the construction of the icebreaker Narvskaya Zastava. The vessel will be the second for the city’s environmental emergency service.
