A sharp rise in blood sugar levels, leading to obesity, weak bones and teeth are the results of preschoolers drinking soda. Nutritionist Elena Solomatina spoke about this.
The nutritionist emphasized that parents’ attitude towards soda has changed: if previously this sweet drink was given to children only on holidays or for special merits, now it has become part of the daily diet. But with such poor nutrition, soda can cause serious harm to the child’s health, writes ridus.ru.
Soda is sugar enriched with gases. Carbon dioxide irritates the mucous membrane, and sugar is more easily absorbed. This leads to a sharp increase in insulin levels. Now type 2 diabetes has become a disease that manifests itself at a young age, although previously it was considered a problem for older people. Insulin resistance and diabetes are now hitting children at a young age.
If the child is unable to expend this amount of energy, it turns into fat. Obesity in children is now increasing very quickly. After all, the change from active games to a sedentary lifestyle has become the reason for this increase in obesity.
You should also be aware of the stress that children experience. Previously, stress caused the production of the pleasure hormone – dopamine, after the child went down the slide or won a game. Nowadays stress is associated with the constant need to have everything you need, learn a foreign language, and play various sports. In addition, constant chronic stress in the body leads to the release of cortisol, a hormone that tells the body that it is time to store fat. That’s why drinking a glass of soda can be an easy way to stimulate dopamine production. Many children literally become addicted to soda because of this.
Among other things, sweet soda contains phosphoric acid, which leaches calcium from the body, especially from children’s teeth.
Dr. Solomatina recommends completely eliminating soda from a preschooler’s diet. It can be replaced with diluted unsweetened compote or, better yet, homemade fruit juice.
