In Russia, they are reformatting the higher education system, introducing innovations that should inspire students to deeper research. The Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation Valery Falkov spoke about this.
He announced plans to divide master’s programs into two types – professional and research, which will give students the opportunity to choose their future development path, writes RT.
“The master’s program will offer two main training trajectories – professional, which will allow you to acquire deep skills in a certain area, and research, intended for those who wish to engage in scientific activities in the future,” Falkov said.
However, the minister also emphasized that the main goal of the master’s program should be not only to obtain a diploma, but also to expand knowledge and professional skills. This change will promote a variety of development paths for students, as well as allow for greater emphasis on academic research.
An important aspect of the reform is also the strengthening of infrastructure and human resources in universities providing master’s programs. This will ensure high quality teaching and research work.
The implementation of this reform will begin from the current academic year, according to a decree signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin. The pilot project also includes the introduction of basic higher education ranging from four to six years and specialized higher education ranging from one to three years.
It is worth noting that much attention is paid to education issues in Sochi. Mayor Kopaygorodsky said that in the next two years, another 13 thousand educational places will appear in the city’s schools.
