The crash of the Russian Il-76 plane in the Belgorod region was commented on by the press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov.
“The exchange of prisoners is a process that takes place in complete silence. The fact that the Ukrainians killed their prisoners, who should have been home literally within 24 hours, is absolutely monstrous,” Peskov told reporters, as quoted by the Izvestia newspaper.
He also suggested calling the office of Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky and asking there why the plane was shot down.
Commenting on Zelensky’s call for an international investigation into the accident with the plane, Peskov noted that Moscow agrees if investigators immediately begin investigating Kyiv’s actions. “If he means an international investigation into the criminal actions of the Kyiv regime, it is definitely necessary,” Peskov clarified, Interfax reports.
Let us remind you that the Il-76 military transport plane crashed on January 24 in the Belgorod region. According to the Ministry of Defense, he was shot down by two missiles from an anti-aircraft missile system stationed in the Kharkov region. The agency reported that there were 65 Ukrainian prisoners on board, as well as three accompanying persons and six crew members. Everyone died. The Ministry of Defense added that prisoners of war were being transported for exchange.
