The crew of the Russian military transport aircraft Il-76, which crashed in the Belgorod region, sacrificed themselves and prevented the board from falling in the village of Yablonovo. This was reported by MK with reference to the Mash Telegram channel.
The pilots, as noted in the material, after the attack, the Ukrainian Armed Forces had about 40 seconds to make a parachute jump. However, the pilots refused to do this and took the plane into the field.
It was previously reported that an exchange of prisoners of war was planned for today, but in the end it was disrupted. At the same time, the Ukrainian side knew about the flight of the plane with prisoners of war of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
An Il-76 plane crashed in the Korochansky district of the Belgorod region. All passengers and crew members were killed. According to the Ministry of Defense, the plane was shot down by an anti-aircraft missile system.
The Foreign Ministry called the incident “an act of insane barbarism,” and Deputy Chairman of the Security Council Dmitry Medvedev called it “the result of the internal political struggle of neo-Nazi elites in Kyiv.”
Let us recall that the last time prisoner exchanges between Russia and Ukraine took place in the second half of 2023. In October, the head of the DPR, Denis Pushilin, reported that in total there were about 500 Russian soldiers in Ukrainian captivity. At the same time, the number of Ukrainian prisoners of war is estimated at 20–25 thousand.
