Boney M founder and producer Frank Farian dies

The founder and producer of the German disco group Boney M, Frank Farian, has died. This was reported by The Guardian newspaper with reference to the producer’s agency. Farian was 82 years old. He died at his home in Miami, Florida (USA).

Farian was born in 1941 in Germany. From childhood, Frank was associated with music and worked part-time in the choir at the church where his mother sang. The future producer was forced to start working early, since his family lived very poorly. Frank was trained as a cook, but did not give up hope of making a musical career. Initially, Farian tried singing, and then decided to start producing.

In 1961, he founded the creative project Frankie Farian und die Schatten to earn some money. This group performed mainly in restaurants, bars and club cafes with a rock program. At that time, the group even managed to take part in the international music festival in Hamburg.

In 1976, Farian founded the world-famous group Boney M. This project brought Frank real fame and multimillion-dollar income. World-famous hits usually include songs by Daddy Cool, 10,000 Lighters, Rasputin and Gotta Go Home.

In 1978, the group came to the USSR on tour. Boney M became the first rock band from Western countries to give concerts in Moscow. This required the personal permission of Leonid Brezhnev.

Farian has collaborated with great musicians such as Stevie Wonder and Meat Loaf. 2 years ago, Farian underwent coronary bypass surgery. Recently, the producer had serious heart problems.
