On the night of January 21, the 11-year-old great-great-grandson of USSR Marshal Vasily Sokolovsky died during a fire, the Moskovsky Komsomolets newspaper reports. According to preliminary data, the fire occurred due to a malfunction of stove equipment in a private house.
The child was with his 14-year-old sister and other relatives in the village of Trudovaya in the Mytishchi urban district. The fire started around midnight. The adults were in a brick house, and the children fell asleep in a wooden building. The marshal’s great-great-granddaughter managed to escape by jumping out of the window. The brother did not get his bearings and remained inside.
According to MK, the 77-year-old grandfather tried to save his grandson, but could not – age and poor health got in the way. An elderly man was taken to the hospital with combustion poisoning.
According to eyewitnesses, the house quickly burned down. The neighbors only managed to approach the site, but little was left of the building. The area of the fire was 200 square meters. Firefighters managed to neutralize the fire, but after extinguishing the fire, special services workers found the body of a boy without signs of life.
Let us remember that Marshal of the Soviet Union Vasily Sokolovsky was one of the commanders of the Red Army during World War II, including in the Battle of Berlin. Sokolovsky also led a contingent of Soviet troops during the years of their deployment in East Germany (Soviet Military Administration, NVA). Several works on army affairs were published under the authorship of the military leader.
