The chief weather forecaster of St. Petersburg, Alexander Kolesov, spoke about the warm coming week in the Northern capital. As the forecaster reported in his Telegram channel, cyclones from the Atlantic will significantly affect the “thaw”, and the temperature will rise to above-zero values tonight.
The expert predicts that by the evening an atmospheric front will move towards the city. At night, warmer temperatures will lead to the appearance of sleet. “From January 23 to 25, there will be a thaw in our region, precipitation in the form of sleet and rain, but there should not be so much of it,” Kolesov noted. The warmest day will be Tuesday, January 23.
But starting from January 25, cold weather is expected in St. Petersburg. Temperatures will begin to drop, and by the end of the week the weather will again become completely wintry, the forecaster emphasizes. Kolesov warns about the formation of ice on sidewalks immediately after the temperature drops and urges city residents to exercise caution.
The forecaster also recalled that the first third of the month was quite cold. The average temperature, according to the St. Petersburg weather station, was minus 11.1 degrees. However, these figures are higher than in the coldest year of the new century: in 2016, the temperature dropped to minus 13. The record was set in 1968, when St. Petersburg experienced the first part of January with a temperature of minus 23.2 degrees.
