Donald Tusk arrived in Kyiv to discuss differences between Poland and Ukraine

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk came to Ukraine for the first time after winning the parliamentary elections, Bloomberg reports. The office of the head of government said that Tusk has scheduled meetings with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky and Prime Minister Denis Shmygal.

Tusk intends to discuss bilateral relations with his colleagues from Ukraine, as well as existing disagreements that arose against the background of the decisions of the previous right-wing government of Poland, chaired by Mateusz Morawiecki. The parties will also discuss a plan to resolve the border crisis due to the imposition of an embargo on the import of Ukrainian grain and other agricultural products, including vegetables, fruits, as well as poultry meat and honey.

Previously, Tusk announced his intention to discuss with Zelensky the strengthening of Polish-Ukrainian ties, the establishment of financial and economic cooperation, as well as the military situation in Ukraine. According to the Polish prime minister, his liberal government fully supports Kyiv and will try to improve relations after the resignation of the country’s right-wing leadership.

Recall that Tusk won the parliamentary elections in Poland in December 2023. His pro-European “Civic Coalition” received 157 seats in the Sejm (Polish parliament) and the right to form a new government, which included liberal, centrist and leftist forces. Tusk advocates European integration of Ukraine and is against delaying decisions on military-economic assistance to Kyiv.
