The Government of the Russian Federation has approved a two-year action plan for the implementation of the concept of migration policy, which provides for the creation of a “digital profile” system for foreigners coming to Russia. It is planned to be created by the end of 2024, TASS reports with reference to the document.
The new mechanism will make it possible to combine migration registration information for each foreign citizen contained in various departmental systems. The Ministry of Digital Development of Russia, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the FSB, the Ministry of Economic Development and the Ministry of Education and Science have been instructed to carry out such work until December 10, 2024.
It is expected that the innovation will provide reliable confirmation of the identity of migrants. The “digital profile” will also use biometric data.
Foreigners coming to the Russian Federation from countries with a visa-free regime will be able to submit an electronic notification of arrival in the Russian Federation using a mechanism. It will also provide the opportunity for foreigners to use “government services.”
Prior to this, a bill was submitted to the State Duma that would expand the list of crimes for which acquired Russian citizenship would be deprived.
Previously, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that the country must ensure the rights of migrants, but the interests of Russians must be a priority.
