The American magazine “Variety” has prepared a list of the hundred best TV series and programs of all time. What titles were on the podium? The final decision may surprise you.

Although many television programs have premiered in recent years and immediately won the hearts of viewers, the ranking also includes real classics from several decades ago. What titles were considered the best of all time?

The best series of 2023. These titles on the podium are quite a surprise

The list opens with the cult black-and-white sitcom “I Love Lucy” broadcast on CBS in 1951-1957. The plot focuses on the fate of a young housewife (played by Lucille Ball), who, not wanting to live in the shadow of her famous husband, Ricky (Desi Arnaz), resorts to the craziest ideas that turn her family’s life upside down. In second place was the 92-episode series “Mad Men” from 2007, telling the story of Don Draper (Jon Hamm), who, while climbing the career ladder, must face the demons of his past. Right behind it was the hit series broadcast by HBO from 1999 to 2007. It is the story of a fictional Italian-American mafia family headed by Anthony Soprano (James Gandolfini), whose professional adventures and personal problems drive the plot.

Further places in the ranking include, among others: to the 5-season crime thriller “Breaking Bad”, which tells the story of a chemistry teacher, Walter White (Bryan Cranston), who is suffering from cancer. When the man finds out that he cannot undergo surgery and will soon die, he decides to provide financial support for his family. He turns to crime, starting to produce and trade methamphetamine. The list also included the cult “Sex and the City”, based on the best-selling book of the same title by Candace Bushnell, whose heroines are four liberated women: Miranda, Samantha, Charlotte and Carrie.

“Succession” also marked its place on the list, showing the complicated fate of the Roy family, whose members fight with each other for power and influence. The top 15 most popular titles according to Variety are as follows:

  14. “The Twilight Zone” (1959-1964)
  15. “Saturday Night Live” (1975)

Having a production recognized in the ranking is undoubtedly a great distinction, but some of the titles were treated too harshly and took a low position. The speech includes: o, which took 21st place, hits from 29th place and the record-breaking “The Office” from 39th place. Interestingly, the top fifty did not include series such as “Greys Anatomy”, or “Hannibal”, which ultimately took 68th, 83rd and 99th place.
