In these moments in which we live, we must be the clearest what it actually means to make a state, and who and how the state is made.

A few years ago, we decided to include national symbols, the flag and the national anthem in the business events we organize, in order to restore civility. And also in the family sphere, we recommend and practice knowing and living all corners of our beautiful Ecuador, doing internal tourism in a country that surprises visitors with its beautiful and diverse geography, culture and warmth of its people. The homeland is symbols, it is her territory, but she is much more.

Have we hit rock bottom?

We can turn to the wisdom contained in the phrases of those who have gone before us and experienced similar circumstances. “Where there is good, there is home,” said Cicero, or “Where liberty dwells, there is my country,” said Benjamin Franklin. “To love one’s country is not to obey its past, but to serve its future,” said Auguste Comte. And how can we not remember José Martí, for whom “every man is obliged to respect his country with his private behavior, as well as with his public behavior.”

We make our country when we take responsibility for our common history, and that includes some decisions and actions. When we continue our lives without allowing fear to paralyze us, when we carry out our activities producing, working, studying, creating, serving; Yes, with more passion and dedication than before. We make our country when we work with excellence every day, fully fulfilling the role we play in society; be honest, abide by the rules, nurture and transmit values such as honesty and solidarity; doing good and thinking of others. We make our country when we are united around President Daniel Noboa, who is doing the job we elected him to do. He has the powers granted by the Constitution to fight terrorism. Let’s support him and FF. AA., everyone from their possibilities. We create a homeland when, above differences and polarization, we choose to look for unity and common interests, no matter how few there may be, and we build from what unites us.

Unity for peace

We will live through an unprecedented long process, in an environment that is difficult to understand and changes in a non-linear way, it is crucial to adopt an approach of resilience, stress tolerance and adaptability. Develop skills such as the ability to continuously learn, systems thinking and the agility to adapt to changing circumstances. Lead prudently and sensibly, pay attention to events, be agile in decisions, handle precise and true information, protect your loved ones and associates, control your own emotions and do not spread unfounded news.

What better way than today to remember Khalil Gilbran: “No matter how long the storm, the sun always shines through the clouds again.” The sun will shine, no doubt, let us turn to the transformative power of personal attitude and unity, collective commitment to overcome the great challenge we face. Let’s go strong and forward, creating our country! (OR)
