I believe that the Penal Code and, of course, the appropriate punishments should be reviewed. I’m not a criminal expert, but I have a vision of the history of lovers of this discipline. From the far-off days of judicial discretion where judges applied punishment at their own discretion, the penal sciences have gone from the rigors of Carrara’s punitur quia pecatum to Pedro Dorado Montero’s protective law for criminals and beyond. In order to delve into the etiology of crime, we considered hereditary factors, Romagnosi’s spinta criminosa, social factors that are decisive factors for the Italian positivist school, Lombroso’s born criminal and more and more suggestive doctrines. What happens to us is that we live in fear of narco-criminal mafias, led by cruel beings who do not hesitate to order death from killers (the younger, the better). There are no hereditary factors, perhaps some influence from the poor sectors, but deep down there is a depravity fueled by the desire for immense wealth.

Resilience and pragmatism

Hard facts present us with a terrified, endangered country, of mothers and women who fear for their children, for extortion, for stray bullets, for arsenals of explosive bombs and grenades, shrapnel and long-range rifles. On Tuesday, there were synchronized attacks in several places in the country, possibly organized from the prisons where the bosses live comfortably with all the perks and amenities for their nefarious activities.

The masters of crime must instruct us, the legislators must examine the classification of crimes and increase the penalties. There is no place for rights such as non-accumulation of sentences, nor is there any place for well-intentioned legislation in favor of minors of legal age as they undergo training and induction. Killers kill for pay and don’t deserve humanitarian compensation because they strangle people’s humanity.

A war that is not indifferent: Ecuador has reached rock bottom

We supported President Nobo. We cannot ask him for miracles because he is not a miracle worker. He is a young man who has healthy intentions to be a good president. The Assembly has a lot of work to do in reviewing the typology of crimes and punishments, as well as the entire penal system of the state, because criminals attack its essence, its reason for existence, democracy.

I believe that the perverted mind of mafia bosses can be rehabilitated, without further ado, because it seems that they have evil in the depths of their souls. What can be done is to deprive them of the opportunity to cause even more harm to society by keeping them isolated in prisons where they are treated humanely.

Everyone must support the prosecutor’s office and the public force, we must cooperate with their work. People should be encouraged to get rid of their fear and report, inform where criminals are hiding. Judges must act ex officio without waiting for complaints, because they themselves are afraid to pronounce guilty verdicts. We must all work to restore social peace in our society and live as people without fear. (OR)
