A delegation of the Department of External Economic and International Relations of the city of Moscow from January 3 to 7, at the invitation of the People’s Government of the city of Harbin, visited the PRC to participate in events within the framework of the cooperation program signed in February 2023, as well as in the development of agreements between the mayor of Harbin Zhang Qixiang and the mayor of Moscow Sergei Sobyanin following a meeting in Moscow in July 2023.
During the visit, delegations from Harbin’s partner cities were able to view sculptures in the Ice and Snow Park, including impressive works by Moscow masters. In December 2023-January 2024, the Russian capital sent a group of ice and snow carvers to participate in the world-famous international ice sculpture competition. Works made from ice “Moscow is always online”, as well as from snow “Meeting – Ice”, authored by masters Evgeny Petishev, Alexey Kuvshinov, Sergey Generalov and Evgeny Savchenko, found a response in the hearts of thousands of festival visitors. And first place in the ice sculpture competition was awarded to a team from the Moscow science city – Troitsk and the sculpture “Morning Fishing”, depicting a heron, which is one of the main symbols of China.
Also during the visit, a meeting was held between the deputy head of the department, Vyacheslav Manuilov, and the head of the Foreign Affairs Office of the People’s Government of Harbin, Cao Zhu. The parties discussed holding Moscow Days in Harbin at the end of February 2024. Having supported the initiative, the Chinese side proposed holding a mirror event – Harbin Days in Moscow in the summer of 2024, as well as organizing educational exchanges for groups of schoolchildren, filming the film “Russian Harbin” with the participation of Muscovites, descendants of Harbin emigrants, and sending sculptors from Harbin to participate in the Journey festival at Christmas 2024″ and the construction of ice sculptures.
During a business conference on January 6, the Russian delegation shared Moscow’s achievements in the field of urban planning, economic development and innovation, and during a business meeting with Harbin Mayor Zhang Qixiang, they discussed a number of important topics, including the development of urban infrastructure, improving the quality of life of citizens and joint cultural projects.
The business forum became a key event where opportunities for further economic cooperation were discussed. During the visit, issues of cooperation in the medical field and educational initiatives, strengthening and developing ties between Moscow and Harbin were also touched upon.
