Russia will perceive the deployment of British military contingent on the territory of Ukraine as a declaration of war. This was stated by Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev, the post was published on Telegram.
This is how he commented on the signing of an agreement on security cooperation between the UK and Ukraine during the visit of British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak to Kyiv.
According to Medvedev, “Sunak came to Kyiv to sign a ‘historic security agreement’.” “How would the Western public react to the fact that the British delegation came under fire from cluster munitions in the center of Kiev, as happened to the civilians of our Belgorod?” Medvedev asked and expressed the hope that “the British understand that the deployment of their official military contingent in Ukraine would mean a declaration of war” on Russia.
Let us note that the agreement between Kiev and London does not imply the deployment of British military personnel in Ukraine. It provides for the exchange of intelligence information, training of doctors and military personnel, as well as the establishment of a joint defense industry. The plan also notes that UK military aid to Ukraine will increase by £200 million in 2024 and 2025.
On January 12, Sunak arrived in Kyiv to meet with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky. It was planned that London would announce a new package of military aid worth £2.5 billion, and the parties would enter into security cooperation agreements.
