The cost of paid education for the 2024/25 academic year at Russian universities will increase by 10–12%. The Izvestia newspaper writes about this with reference to the Association of Non-State Universities of the Russian Federation.
As the rector of the Russian New University Vladimir Zernov clarified, the rise in prices is due to the increase in the cost of equipment for training and the rise in prices for housing and communal services. Also, educational institutions will need to compensate for the increase in salaries of specialist teachers. According to Zernov, the Ministry of Education is unlikely to allocate additional funds to universities, so prices will have to increase.
The average cost for the university will increase by 10%, says the head of the admissions committee of the Russian University of Economics. G.V. Plekhanov Ayurika Batueva. She predicts that for engineering and technical programs, as well as those related to information technology, growth will average from 5 to 8%, for humanities and socio-economic specialties – from 8 to 15%.
Experts also added that the most expensive programs today are full-time training in technical professions: construction, energy and IT.
The newspaper notes that the most expensive place to study now is at MGIMO, where the average cost of a course is 700–800 thousand rubles. And those wishing to study at the Faculty of International Business at the Higher School of Economics will have to pay 1 million a year.
