How to stay healthy during warming: advice from expert Kondrakhin

Russia is experiencing rapid warming. Only an absolutely healthy body can cope with such a change. Cardiologist and therapist Andrei Kondrakhin gave some tips for survival in a conversation with Reedus.

Within a few days the temperature will rise to zero degrees. People who have problems with the heart and blood vessels should be prepared.

“A healthy body is not afraid of temperature changes. However, for people with heart and vascular problems this will be more difficult. After all, this is a change of cyclones: a cyclone with high pressure will bring cold, and a cyclone with low pressure will bring warming and humidity,” Kondrakhin recalled.

“You need to be more calm. Eliminate coffee, tea and cigarettes. You are only loading and stimulating your cardiovascular system,” insists the cardiologist.

“During warming, it is strictly not recommended to drink alcohol. It will not help your body adapt, but will only retain excess water and worsen the situation,” Kondrakhin warned.

“When atmospheric pressure changes, the body begins to equalize it. In a healthy body this occurs in a stable and balanced manner. But people with hypertension or heart disease do not have this opportunity due to pathology. They may have either a sharp rise in pressure or a sharp drop,” the expert continues.

“The most important thing is to pay attention to how you feel. You may feel unwell and uncomfortable. The main rule during such periods is to load yourself as little as possible. If you have the opportunity, put things off for a few days. If not, work, but try to reduce the load until the temperature stabilizes,” advises Kondrakhin.

During sudden warming, people usually experience drowsiness and decreased performance. But when the temperature returns to normal, stimulants begin to have a negative effect on the body, the cardiologist continues. “Your body will be tense, and after the holidays we are already tense: poor diet, excess salt, etc., a lot of fluid is retained in the body. Therefore, take care of yourself,” says Kondrakhin.

“The main advice is to reduce your intake of any stimulants, including nicotine. We reduce everything that can harm us during sudden weather changes. When the temperature is stable, we can allow ourselves more. But love yourself no matter the weather. Nobody needs additional loads. During sudden warming, take care of your body more than usual,” the expert concludes.

The scientific director of the Hydrometeorological Center, Roman Vilfand, confirmed forecasts of rapid warming: on Thursday the temperature will rise to zero degrees.
