After the avalanche of good wishes passes, after three connections that generate them and make us feel in the clouds of positive possibilities, we suddenly return to reality. No, Ecuador dreams but does not realize; wants but does not specify; declares, but everything remains in words. Those of us old enough to compare decades, governments and crises look back and tell our younger selves that there was a time when we walked the streets carefree, the middle class used public transport calmly and the nights were They sent us straight home.

I come from that Guayaquil. My hard-working father placed my education in private institutions, but my social group always knew how to live with measures and limits. The analyst says that the middle class knows it will never be high and is afraid of falling. As everything is flexible in these current times, social mobility can be agile depending on the means used. A visionary trader earns more than a professional with a college degree and rises to the rank of owner, based on skill and luck.

This is how profiles of individuals and groups are drawn. And duties and rights strengthen us in the heart of a state that receives and gives according to its laws. This ideal order has moved away from our horizons and today it seems like a historical description. We continue to fulfill our obligations: we pay taxes, vote in elections, maintain social security, to name just a few, but the state does not reciprocate, that is, it does not care about our rights. Taxes are diluted in the corruption that manages public funds, politicians lie to us in most cases when they speak, citizens’ health is abandoned, education is a farce.

The natural reaction to these realities would be anger. Why don’t they answer me? Why don’t they respect my rights? But it’s not like that. A vertigo of fear settled in the psyche of the Ecuadorian: not only do we feel it in the face of shameful everyday insecurity – motorcycles turned into haunted vehicles – but also in the face of most actions that we should take decisively. those who are looking for solutions to their problems. If we get sick, there are no public hospitals to take care of us; If we demand a procedure, we fall into the ball of the processor; If we are looking for a job, “leverage” is worth more than merit. Fear of imprecise links, fear of being the last in line, panic of crossing the road as a pedestrian or cyclist and being killed by a reckless driver.

In this galloping decay of existence, woe to him who requires intervention in the judicial process. The links in the chain of “operations” of justice are endless. We have already seen that it is enough for the trial to be interrupted and delayed if the participant is declared ill. Vehicle insurers are raising prices because there are daily attacks on cars, and these companies are not making money or making less money. Who can re-educate the inhabitants of this country from their roots? Is it about renewing content, attitudes and simultaneously expelling the forces that conspired to destroy an entire community? So I allow fear, more than anything for the young. (OR)
