I’m getting on the plane that will bring me from Guayaquil, a few days ago I got off the identical ship that brought me from the south. Same color, same flag, same airline. I reaffirm that the soft seats on the plane have been replaced by what a friend calls “chairs”. In fact, a very thin cushion covers a metal structure that cannot be reclined. Yes, as it is, it does not lie. Well, these are the back seats, those in the front rows are soft and reclining. And, isn’t it irresponsible to increase such a number of “chairs”, even occupying the space between the emergency exit doors?

In Ecuador, the elderly have the right to pay a little less for tickets, but the airline reserves the right not to allow us to take even a small box of halloumi and sheet cheese, because it is already considered an “extra suitcase”; In addition, they assign us uncomfortable seats in the back rows. Seats we share with sweet, crying children and indolent mothers who try to silence the children with shouts and sweets. “Hug him, make up a game, sing his favorite song, play a game with your fingers,” I want to tell him, but I hold back. The mother’s youth and the cow’s intelligent appearance make me think that I am wasting my time. Because of the ringing in my ears, I have to protect my ears with cotton wool and vaseline so that I won’t hear the crying anymore.

When I ask Mr. Google who millennials are (what a pity, I used AndrĂ© Comte-Sponville’s dictionary of philosophy before), he tells me: “Defining a sector of the population such as millennials is not an easy task, but most of the media agree on one thing: these young people those born after the 80s are a digital generation, hyper-connected and of high social and ethical values. All that and more makes them different from past generations.”

In Ecuador we recently started a government of young people (for whom the airlines will charge full fare, will allow them to wear halulas and will not treat them as the last wheel in the car), I like those with ‘high social and ethical values’. It would be great to be able to bury so many scams and compromises, but one does not think.

Many criticize them for their inexperience, but they do not discover the possibility of change with new ideas and forms, so we are concerned that they have not already done something similar. However, I wonder how many times the former minister of energy held functions related to his expertise? AND? Here we are screwed and turned off. Let’s keep our fingers crossed and give the new government a chance to do it right.

But going back to the characteristics of this generation, it seems that it is the main hyper-connectivity. And this is questionable. Talking to someone who doesn’t look at you while you’re talking to them, walking with someone who can’t see the beauty of the buildings around them, eating, reading a poem, laughing or hugging someone who has their eyes fixed on that damn little screen is usually awful. As much as the lack of education of certain young people: Is it excessive to ask someone who has been working for five years to say see you? (OR)
