On the occasion of Christmas and the end of the year, family gatherings, friends and colleagues intensified. Crews, novenas, dinners and occasional toasts. And, of course, what happens when people get together so much: we all get sick.
It is true that many of us finish, and others open the year infected with respiratory viruses, flu, influenza and not so terrible covid, which is still circulating. Hospitals, with patients on respiratory therapy, aggravated by the smell of gunpowder and burning dolls.
Flu is a virus, doctors say. Like all viruses, it reacts to the process. The first days seem eternal, without hope. The head breaks, the body faints before the symptoms. But once the virus weakens, as a result of the passage of time and medication, everything begins to return to normal. You can breathe, sleep and finally work normally again.
Does this image sound familiar to you, dear reader?
Likewise, the days we live in seem to be infected with a very powerful virus. Violence, corruption and bad governance are evils that have a long process, during which they have infected our country and even consolidated themselves in some intimate circles of power.
And it didn’t happen overnight; They had their own process. They arrived crouching; maybe we didn’t see them coming. Or we didn’t want to see them. But the truth is that this journey full of mistakes has led us to the situation in which we find ourselves. An alley that seems to have no end. Just like the first days of the flu.
And just like when you are sick and the typical wise-headed aunts, curious neighbors appear, those who do not work, but do not let the doctor do his job and talk to him about everything, recommend homemade syrups, therapies and a thousand and one practices, allegedly, proven Also, now there are those who, in the face of any management of this and any government, only create confusion and even greater anxiety among citizens.
Daniel Noboa’s government, whether we voted for him or not, was in power for less than two months, almost fifteen days of which were occupied by estate administration tasks, holidays and festivals.
Does anyone seriously believe that a multi-year disaster can be repaired in 30 days? Or maybe, as a result of desperation, we believe we have the right to seek science fiction solutions?
We have to be careful, of course. We demand our rights as citizens, of course. Report what’s not right or legal, of course. But let’s not get into the game of creating more chaos, more uncertainty, spreading false rumours, supporting misinformation and discrediting.
The situation in the country, like the flu, needs time and concrete actions to resolve. We will make sure that the Government takes the correct measures that we need; But while this is happening, let’s be part of the solution, each contributing positively from our own space and capabilities. (OR)
