Georgia is confident that it has made “significant progress” towards NATO membership and hopes that the revitalization of this process “will be a clear signal for the entire region”, signaling the strength of the North Atlantic Alliance. This was stated by the Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili during a meeting with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, Haqqin.az news agency reported.
According to the head of the Georgian government, Georgia’s cooperation with NATO is already being successfully carried out within the framework of the Black Sea Security Partnership. He believes that NATO’s decision to update its Strategic Concept will be a positive signal for Georgia and reaffirm the alliance’s commitment to the open door policy.
Georgia, like Ukraine, is focused on joining NATO, considering this perspective as a guarantee of stability and security in the region. Back in 2008, at the NATO summit in Bucharest, it was decided that in the future both Georgia and Ukraine will become members of the alliance, although action plans for both countries have not yet been provided. At the same time, the head of the American State Department, Anthony Blinken, said that Georgia and Ukraine have chances to join NATO as soon as they can meet the internal requirements of this organization.
