Regeneration is a term with multiple interpretations in different fields of thought, from philosophical and religious to medicine, plant and animal life, even to political when we talk about urban. It is not really conceivable when applied to the world of agriculture and within it to that mysterious part of the first centimeters of earth responsible for feeding the people that make up the productive soils, accepted as living beings thanks to the existence of thousands of millions of microorganisms that live in them, constantly interacting with each other to nourish the crops. There are so many of them that one teaspoon corresponds to the number corresponding to the world’s population.

In soils, it is the process of restoring their original conditions, restoring their desecrated essence for the establishment of crops, when their original structure has been broken by hand or machinery, triggering a constant aggression by extracting part of their mineral and organic composition in search of crops for the survival of mankind; or restore them when they have lost their noble layer due to erosion of any kind or when they have decayed to the point of extinction of the biological part due to the use of toxins. It is, therefore, about returning to agricultural soils the advantages that existed before the irrational destruction of trees, without taking into account the practice of conservation actions.

Bananas maintained their good results and in 11 months they increased in exports by 7%.

They are not new concepts, they even appear in constitutions and laws, but very few countries implement them, Ecuador has them in its Constitution and other secondary norms with serious articles that make people vibrate with emotions, but they remain a dead letter, we think because there is a fundamental lack of awareness about soils and the living specimens that live in them; But, admittedly, there are private business firms that have launched asset recovery campaigns, effectively compensating for public incompetence. Incredibly, it is conglomerates that have reached levels of unpopularity and distrust that have reversed their behavior. Among them are classic transnational companies in the agricultural sector, promoting specific programs that attract attention and represent a convincing change of image.

Unused agro-industrial potential

Since we are public, we will refer to two or three of them, the company Syngenta, now Bayer, presents field work with results that show a desire to participate effectively in the challenge of regenerative agriculture, with such a will that it recognizes bonuses to farmers to join the adoption of this philosophy . The multinational company Nestlé follows the same line of behavior, paying better prices for cocoa as a result of this healthy policy, which foreign consumers view with enthusiasm. The same could be said for Carguil, the French conglomerate Danone, the North American group Wilmar and others. It would be desirable for this will to materialize in a generalized way for all agricultural products that highlight Ecuador in the competitive markets of the world. (OR)
