Olympic champion of Turin Roman Kostomarov said in the “Exclusive” program on Channel One that he will have another operation.
According to the skater, doctors are going to prepare his second arm for prosthetics. The athlete already copes well with prosthetics: he drives a car, plays tennis and even goes on the ice. However, it remains to perform prosthetics on the second arm. “Prosthetics still make it possible to feel like a full-fledged person,” Kostomarov noted.
At the same time, according to him, he has not yet been able to fully get used to his new situation, despite the help of his loved ones. “When you go to bed and unfasten all your bells and whistles, then you see what happened to you. And how terrible everything is. Alone with yourself in this state, you can become depressed. I want to fall asleep so that when I wake up, it all turns out to be a dream. In my dreams I dream that I am full-fledged. You wake up, bang and there’s nothing,” Kostomarov shared his experiences.
Therefore, the most important desire of the athlete is to fully understand what happened and come to terms with the fact that it is forever.
Let us remind you that Roman Kostomarov suffered severe pneumonia. During treatment, he was placed in a medically induced coma and was placed on ECMO and a ventilator. This was the only way to save his life. However, a long stay in a coma caused problems with blood supply in the upper and lower extremities, then sepsis and tissue necrosis developed. Doctors were forced to perform amputations on the athlete’s arms and legs.
