The Visit Petersburg portal presented the top 5 places for family holidays in the Northern capital

The official tourism portal Visit Petersburg has compiled a rating of the most popular and interesting places in the Northern capital, which are recommended for adults and children to visit during the New Year holidays.

“In accordance with the instructions of the President of Russia and within the framework of the national project “Tourism and Hospitality Industry,” we are developing the tourism industry, opening new hotels, holding concerts, festivals and holidays. By decree of the head of our state, 2024 was declared the Year of the Family. This is another reason to spend the New Year holidays with the whole family in St. Petersburg. Moreover, the city has prepared many interesting and exciting events for all ages and for every taste,” said Governor Alexander Beglov.

The rating opens with Palace Square. Until January 8, a New Year’s multimedia show is broadcast here every evening from 18:00 to 22:00. In the center of the square there is the main city Christmas tree, decorated in the style of the 1950s and 60s. It is decorated with 7 thousand meters of LED garlands and more than 300 toys – balls, houses, snowmen, horses, candies and nutcrackers.

Guests of the city will also be interested in visiting the Christmas markets, which are located on Moscow, Manezhnaya and Palace squares. These are not just holiday markets, but cultural spaces with concerts, slides, skating rinks, master classes and a variety of entertainment. On Manezhnaya Square you can meet characters from Hoffmann’s fairy tale “The Nutcracker and the Mouse King,” and on Moskovskaya Square you can meet characters from Pushkin’s fairy tales.

In addition, there are 228 skating rinks and 71 ski slopes in St. Petersburg. In the historical center of the city, skating rinks are located in the courtyard of the Bolshoi Gostiny Dvor, on Manezhnaya and Konyushennaya squares. In these cultural locations, music is played, master classes are held, food and warm drinks are sold. This year you can learn to play curling at the skating rink in Nikolsky Rows. The skating rink at Sevkabel Port was recognized as the most romantic for its panoramic view of the Gulf of Finland. And the skating rink at Flagstaff claims to be the largest in the world.

Fans of bright spectacles will be able to watch New Year’s performances – a selection of performances, New Year trees, ice and circus shows is presented on the Visit Petersburg website with descriptions and links to the organizers’ resources.

Museums have also prepared their New Year’s programs for parents and children during the winter holidays. Until the end of January, you can learn a lot about the traditions of celebrating the New Year in Russia at the Petrovskaya Aquatoria museum-museum. The interactive museum-theater “Fairy Tale House” invites you to Christmas gatherings on January 7 and 8, and “Grand Maket Russia” invites young guests to take a quest journey through the exhibition “New Year’s Wizards of Russia.”
