At the end of the last days of the year, it is customary to evaluate what has been experienced in the past 365 days. Companies review their balance sheets and meet or fail to meet their goals, state institutions prepare their reports that must be made public. The rest of us, as citizens, look at the situation in the country and its crisis and hurry to come up with possible solutions, which could be a New Year’s resolution. Most of the options are complex and difficult, and some would be long-term, among which the need for educational reform is widely mentioned, which is urgent, but its results will be seen after a few years.

When we talk about education, it is generally about the primary cycle, high school, college and the need to have more technical educational institutions, but education is not only institutional, this is systematic education, which is planned, with a predetermined structure. goals, content, activities and methods and, consequently, intentionally.

There is what is called non-systematic education, which is not planned, does not follow a specific program, does not have a specific method, is casual, happens in everyday life, in contact with society, is not part of any system and, however, has a great impact on the overall development of children and of young people who deal with it. It is the action of presence and it works first of all in training, not in the transmission of knowledge.

When the phone rings, the child answers and says to the father: “They’re calling”, and he replies: “Say I’m not there.” The son learns that you can lie.

When he says, “The teacher gave me a bad grade,” and his mother replies, “Don’t worry, she’s my friend, I’ll tell her to raise your grades,” he learns that if you have friends, everything is easy to fix, so we usually call him lever.

When he grew up and heard on television or in older conversations that someone got rich because of bribes he received for jobs, he learned that it was possible to collect more than just the salary, breaking the rules to benefit the payer.

When he learns that he won’t be invited to his colleague’s graduation party because of his clothes, he learns that people are judged by the brand of what they wear, that is, by the money they have.

When will classes resume in Ecuador after the Christmas and New Year holidays?

When you are a citizen who can choose, listen carefully to the candidates and then find that nothing offered has been fulfilled, you learn that a word is not an obligation that must be respected.

I’m probably boring you, dear reader, but as New Year’s resolutions come after the final grades, it seemed important to me that when we share with you the idea that educational reform must be implemented, we also think about the cultural changes that are necessary so that the society we belong to contributed to the comprehensive education of children and young people.
