At 00:00 Moscow time there will be an urgent meeting of the UN Security Council, requested by Russia after the Ukrainian attack on Belgorod.
Moscow insists on the participation of a representative of the Czech Republic in order for him to explain the issue of arms supplies to Kyiv, noted First Deputy Permanent Representative of Russia to the UN Dmitry Polyansky.
According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, the Ukrainian Armed Forces attempted to launch an indiscriminate combined strike on Belgorod with two Alder missiles with cluster ammunition, as well as Czech Vampire MLRS rockets. Air defense systems intercepted the missiles and most of the shells, but several shells and cluster missile parts hit the city. As the military department explained, in the event of a direct hit by the Vilkha missiles, the consequences would be more severe.
According to the head of the Belgorod region, Vyacheslav Gladkov, the death toll reached 14 people, three of them children. 108 people were injured, 15 of them children. There are 15 people in intensive care (three children and 12 adults).
The attack on Belgorod was reported to Vladimir Putin. On the instructions of the president, a team from the Ministry of Health headed by Minister Mikhail Murashko, as well as a group from the Ministry of Emergency Situations, flew to the region to provide assistance to the victims.
“Currently, we have information about the damage to more than 100 cars, most of them were completely destroyed – they were burned. Damage was detected in 22 apartment buildings, a large number of commercial facilities, shopping centers, and shops. Damage assessment continues,” Gladkov said on the Telegram channel.
In Belgorod, in the Yakovlevsky urban district, as well as in nine border municipalities, all public events have been cancelled.
The American State Department commented as standard that the United States does not encourage or enable such attacks. The office of the UN Secretary General said that attacks on civilian infrastructure and civilians are unacceptable: they violate international humanitarian law and must be stopped immediately and condemned.
