In total 2,850 packages of cocaine were seized.
A warehouse built in the basement of a house was used as a drug collection center in the Guerreros del Fortín cooperative, in the northwest of Guayaquil. There, a shipment of 2.8 tons of cocaine was discovered.
The discovery was made by several policemen who were patrolling the area and who saw a suspicious man run towards the house where the drug was found.
It is a construction where there was a large quantity of cardboard with a dessert logo. There they found 115 boxes with packages of cocaine. 2,851 brick-type packages were seized. There are a total of 2.83 tons of cocaine.
Each brick-like block was identified with a logo, number, and country names.
General Fausto Buenaño, commander of Zone 8 of the Police (Guayaquil, Durán and Samborondón), explained that the seized drug would cost about $ 114 million in the United States and $ 228 million in Europe.
He also indicated that they presume that the cargo was going to be taken to the ports to contaminate containers.
Buenaño added that violent deaths have also increased in the Nueva Prosperina district. Last year 27 were registered, but this year there are already 92 cases, 65 more crimes than last year. 241% increase.
Two organizations are fighting in that sector, said Buenaño, who preferred not to detail which gangs operate in the area where they found the cocaine shipment.
So far this year, the National Police set another record in drug seizures, since it has recorded more than 190 tons seized. Most of the drug seizures are reported in Guayas. (I)
