An open-ended protest organized by local oppositionists began in Abkhazia. The main demand of the protesters is the exclusion from discussions in parliament of the issue related to the transfer of the state dacha in Pitsunda to the Russian Federation, writes FederalPress.
According to oppositionist Alkhas Dzhindzholiya, this is about preventing the ratification of the agreement in its current form. He called on citizens to support this action. Dzhindzholiya emphasized that the purpose of the action is not to incite a conflict – the terms of the old agreement, according to which the dacha is in perpetual use by Russia, do not cause any rejection among the local population. In this way, he expresses the opinion of citizens and protects the interests of Abkhazia.
Chairman of the Abkhaz People’s Movement Adgur Ardzinba also proposed postponing ratification of the new agreement, arguing that some technical aspects raise concerns and require further consideration. Representatives of parliament have not yet given official comments on this issue.
The situation remains tense, but protesters expect that their voice will be taken into account when this issue is considered in the Abkhaz parliament.
