The Russian tourist flow to Turkey by the end of 2023 will be at least 6.3-6.5 million trips, Interfax reports with reference to the forecast of the Association of Tour Operators of Russia (ATOR).
“According to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Turkey, 6.1 million Russian tourists visited it from January to November, which is 23% more than during the same period in 2022. This allows us to predict that by the end of 2023, at least 6.3-6.35 million tourists from Russia will visit the country,” the report says.
At the same time, the 2023 figure will not reach the pre-Covid 7 million tourists. Based on the results of 11 months, the tourist flow is 11% lower than the record result of 2019.
Of the 6.3 million visits by Russians to Turkey, about 3.5 million will be to Antalya, more than 2 million to Istanbul, and more than 450 thousand trips to the provinces of the Aegean region of Turkey. Russia leads among the countries from which the most tourists came to Turkey in 11 months of 2023. Germany is in second place, where 5.96 million tourists came from, and the UK is in third with 3.7 million. At the same time, tour operators noted that Istanbul is a popular transport hub for Russians. A significant part of the tourist flow in 2023 was accounted for by transit tourists flying on Turkish airlines to third countries.
