Due to the thaw last week, St. Petersburg road crews were focused on maximizing drainage. As the press service of Smolny told RosBalt news agency, the enterprises responsible for this front of work constantly checked the condition of the entrances to the storm sewer.
Rain and melting snow due to above-zero temperatures led to water flowing from lawns onto sidewalks and roadways. To ensure the outflow of water, road workers cleaned 8 thousand storm drain grates.
The total height of the snow cover over 7 days increased by only 7 cm. On average, about 30 thousand cubic meters of snow were transported to recycling points per day; almost 222 thousand cubic meters were removed from the city in a week. In addition, more than 930 cubic meters of waste were sent to the landfill.
Today, the streets and roads of the city are cleaned by 836 units of equipment and 917 manual workers. Green areas are cleaned by 280 machines and 940 specialists from gardening enterprises.
It should be noted that earlier residents of St. Petersburg expressed dissatisfaction with how management organizations deal with snow removal on their territories. The management company promised to improve, but in cases where this does not happen, any St. Petersburg resident can contact the duty service of the city improvement committee, which takes calls around the clock at 314-60-13. In addition, subordinate enterprises have hotline numbers – they are published on the committee’s official VKontakte page. There is also access to the “Public Services We Solve Together” application.
Meanwhile, according to forecasters, after the thaw period, St. Petersburg will experience a slight cold snap and new snowfalls. There may be icy conditions on sidewalks and roads. In general, according to experts, this winter may turn out to be one of the snowiest in the history of meteorological observations.
