Ukraine and Moldova will receive EU funding to improve transport infrastructure

The European Commission announced the signing of a “high-level agreement” with Ukraine and Moldova on the review of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) in their territories and improvement of transport links with the EU, Interfax reports.

“Today’s high-level agreements are another key step towards bringing Ukraine and Moldova closer to our common market. By extending four European transport corridors to Ukraine and Moldova (…), we are strengthening transport links in the region and with the EU. Both countries can now apply for infrastructure funding for projects along these corridors,” said EC Transport Member Adina Valyan.

The changes will be reflected in the new TEN-T regulation when it comes into force at the beginning of 2024 and will expand four European transport corridors to Ukraine and Moldova, explained in Brussels, which also draws attention to the importance of the signed agreement in connection with the decision to start negotiations with both countries on joining the EU.

The European Commission notes that after signing association agreements with the EC earlier this year, Ukraine and Moldova will also be able to apply for funding from the European Connectivity Fund for TEN-T infrastructure development projects.
